NZIPP Iris Awards 2012

I honestly don't remember the last time I felt that heart-pounding-out-of-my-chest feeling like I felt at the NZIPP Iris Awards this past week! The Iris Awards are NZ's most recognisable photography awards, and we sat for three days watching prints in different categories being judged live by a panel of national and international judges. The judging rooms were buzzing with adrenalin and nerves, as everyone tried to put on their best poker face, pretending it wasn't their print being currently debated in a room full of extremely talented photographers! It was fascinating and addictive - we would only sneak out quickly for the occasional sugar fix... and nervous pee! My stomach twisted as I waited for my prints to roll around in the spotlight for scrutiny. Gulp.

Entering Iris Awards has always been a big personal goal of mine - one I wasn't sure I would pluck up the courage for very quickly! But this year I held my breath, and sent off a few prints... purely for the experience and to dip my feet in the waters of the whole Iris world. I was completely stoked to receive four Bronze Awards - three in the 'Wedding Classic' category, and one in the 'Wedding Creative' category!! Definitely an incredible experience, and one I am soooooo happy I was part of. A massive thank you to my wonderful couples who were the stars of my award winning images, and who make my job completely and utterly awesome - Jen and Blair, Kelly and Mark, Crystal and Luke, and Becky and Omid... you guys are awesome! xoxo

Photography Awards- Dunedin Photographer

Not only did we sit through 3 days of print judging, we also had the most amazing time at the big annual NZIPP conference - Infocus!! My head is full and I learnt soooooooo much - so inspired by awesome international and national speakers.... and I just feel so blessed to be part of such an amazing industry!! NZIPP (New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography) do a fantastic job of educating, growing, inspiring, and resourcing photographers to push boundaries and do the best job possible for our clients. It was incredibly amazing to meet sooooo many more TALENTED and LOVELY photographers, and to actually talk photography non-stop for 5 days!!! *Geeks*. Ah-mazing week.

Bring on the 2013 Iris Awards and Infocus... and bring on this wedding season!!! This past week has given me more and more goals to work towards, and I am soooo looking forward to implementing the things I have learnt! Can't wait to create many magical images with all of our upcoming wedding and portrait clients! xoxoxo

Kimberley Cheyne Photography and Christal Allpress Makeup Artist are going to give four girls an afternoon of fun, friends, food and frivolity! All you need to do to enter is head to my facebook page, tag yourself in a competition image, and sit back and wait!

The winners will receive the whole shebang - you will be made-over with natural looking make-up by Christal, given pretty cupcakes & scrummy treats to eat, fancy drinks to share, a goodie bag of girlie treats to take home... and then you get the opportunity to have these precious memories captured in a fun and relaxed location-based photo shoot with Kimberley! Each girl will also receive a CD of images, and four professional prints!

If you are male and want to win this competition as a gift for your wife, girlfriend, mother, sister, or friend.... go on, tag yourself too! One lucky tagger will be drawn by random selection on Monday the 15th of August, and they will get to choose 3 friends. (Pssst...tell all your friends to enter too and make sure you are extra nice to them - bribery may help you get in on this too!).

Winner will be notified via facebook and must get in contact with us within 4 days to claim the prize, or it will be redrawn. The afternoon will take place on either the 3rd, 10th, or 24th of September 2011, and about 4 hours will need to be allowed. Must be within the Dunedin City boundaries (any travel expenses beyond this must be covered by the recipients).

These pieces of art are perfect as gifts, or for your own home! And now, until stocks run out, they are up to 40% off their normal prices! They can also be posted nationally and internationally if required.

There are two options - you can either:

Choose your favourite image from my Landscapes & Nature page, or my Dunedin page, and pick a suitable block size from the list below - easy as pie! Or,
If you have been a client of mine, and would like a photo from your session on a block mount, you can do that too!

Sizes are as stocked - some sizes are very limited, so it will be first in first served!

Cinematic and Fashion Inspired Wedding Photography

In May I had the opportunity to head to Queenstown for a seminar run by one of the worlds leading wedding and fashion photographers - New York's Heather Waraksa! It was an amazing and inspiring day, run by The Image College. They do a fantastic job of helping little old South Island photographers like me keep up with what is happening in the big wide world of wedding photography!

It was definitely worth the very early morning drive over there. I left at 5am, and sung really loudly to keep myself awake. I was met there by my very good friend from Heather Ellis Photography, and we became friends with the other handful of photographers there too!

The afternoon allowed us some time for a model shoot, which was awesome, and very, very different. I have only just managed to have a peek at what I shot, so thought I would share a few, because they are unique and fun. Please note that I take absolutely no credit for the ideas, or the setting up of these shots! We all stood back and watched while she taught us some tips and tricks, and then we photographed them! Enjoy xx

Giving is a good thing...

It is a beautiful day outside, and I am inside at my computer working... sigh! But I love my job, and I did just have a 5 minute break in the sun to eat brownie, so you will hear no complaining from me! Life is gooood.

Another good thing is that our new gift vouchers arrived this week! And they look great. So this serves as a reminder that you can give the gift of photography to someone you love, someone who has a special occasion coming up, someone you just think deserves it, or someone who is just incredibly hard to buy a gift for. Everyone loves to look back on beautiful photographs to remember good times or important moments in their life, and I love to capture them!

Vouchers can be purchased for any type of shoot package, or you can give a voucher of any value, to be put towards prints choices. A perfect idea is to go in with other friends for engagement or wedding presents, baby shower presents, birthday presents, and the like.

What kind of gift could I give?

A maternity or newborn shoot for someone expecting a little one soon!

Dreams of summer, and thoughts about facebook.

Dreaming of Summer...

I have been searching through older photos, finding photos of me and Liam for wedding bits and pieces (yes... just over 2 months now! Wahoo!), and I found some fun summery photos of the two months I spent working in Australia this time last year. I can't believe how quickly this year has gone... and how much has been packed into the past 12 months for me! It gives me shivers of excitement. Thought I would share just two photos with you, purely so you can get excited that summer is on its way!

Facebook.

Despite my addiction to social networking, I was reluctant to put my business on facebook. I was scared it would mean that people would no longer visit my pretty website. But I figured surely 80% of New Zealanders use facebook, so, I did it... and now I am not only addicted to flicking between my personal home page and profile page to see if anything has changed in the last 2 seconds, I have a third page too!

Although it is a crazy waste of time sometimes, I swear it is a huge tool in professional development for myself as well! My home page is filled up with photographers from around the world sharing their latest and greatest. I LOVE just pouring over albums of beautiful photos, and challenging myself to step up another level, bringing myself closer to these photographers who I admire so much.
