6 day old Fletcher... perfect in every way! Hollie and Andrew brought their completely handsome little man into the studio to capture him at his tiniest. Oh how I adore his squishable cheeks. Big brother, Rory, came in for some cuddles as well... Hollie and Andrew, you have such a beautiful family! You should be so proud xx
Julia and Marcus' journey to starting their family was one that I wish no family had to go through, but that unfortunately is a heartbreaking reality for far too many families. In 2013, Julia and Marcus lost their first precious baby, Isaac, at 27 weeks. The joy, the anticipation, the hope... all shattered in an instant.
They have since been on an on-going journey through the grief of losing a much loved child. Mid last year, Julia got in touch saying that her and Marcus had got engaged, and on top of that... they were now pregnant again... with a little girl this time! I was overjoyed for them! Julia wanted to do a photo shoot combining both of these things, as well as acknowledging and remembering Isaac. I spent an evening in October with them in Invercargill, capturing this special and emotional time for them.
There isn't a day that goes by where they don't think of their little boy, and wish that he was in their arms. But I'm so happy to let you know that in December, Julia and Marcus welcomed gorgeous, perfect little Lily into this world... and this precious little bundle will always bring them joy, as well as remind them of her big brother, Isaac, and the role he has played in their lives.
Here is Lily as a beautiful bump...
Julia and Marcus have found and created their own ways of keeping Isaac so close to them. They have so many beautiful keepsakes around their house in his honour, and they constantly keep him in their thoughts... which brings huge sadness, but also happiness as they reflect on how he added to their lives... bringing them closer as a couple, and making them loving parents. Julia openly shares her thoughts and grief process on a facebook page called 'Remembering Isaac'.
"I intend to allow Isaac's sibling (and any others that come along) to know him as a valued, missed and loved member of our family, to know his as their older brother and to include him when they think of our family. I intend to include Isaac in all significant occasions in our lives, in our everyday happiness and to celebrate, remember and cherish his existence, rather than hide him away and have him become 'that topic we don't talk about'. These things I can do to honour the memory of my precious son."
Julia and Marcus, thank you so much for allowing me into this journey of your life. I know it's had it's major downs, and major highs, and I feel privileged to have been able to be part of it in some way. I have thought about you a lot over the past few months... I hope everything is going amazingly well, and you are really enjoying every milestone and moment with your gorgeous wee girl. I know her big brother is a very strong part of your family, and I wish you all all the very best for this next journey together xoxo
When the sun begins to show its face for the day, and a beautiful young family is already out enjoying the ocean, good things happen!
Evie, Vegar and Vetle's family shoot was amazing - at the beach bright and early, before the sun was even up... we got all sorts of different light to play around with. This beautiful family were living in Dunedin, but were only a few weeks short of moving back to Norway. They were keen for a sunrise shoot, as 6am was when 4 month old Vetle (meaning 'Winter Wanderer') was at his absolute best! Even though I do love my sleep, I definitely obliged... who doesn't love the amazing light as the sun rises?! We were blessed with an incredible morning at the iconic St Clair sticks, and this family were a dream to photograph.
What a cute little muchkin Vetle is!!
And Evie is suuuuuch a gorgeous Mumma! Both her and Vegar didn't need any direction in front of the camera... true naturals...
Thank you soooo much, you beautiful family! It was a real treat to photograph you all. I hope you are loving being back in Norway... I'm sure your families aren't complaining about having you all back! All the best xx
It's been months in the planning, but at the end of this week, Jo and Josh will officially be husband and wife! These two are some of the most genuinely lovely, down-to-earth people we know... it's been awesome getting to know them over the past few years! They are super organised, AND super relaxed, so I have no doubt that this Saturday will be one heck of a brilliant day!
I love proposal stories - whether they are beautifully simple or extremely elaborate, they are always amazing. Josh proposed at Macandrew Bay, with a stunning ring in a box of Jo's favourite treat... colourful macarons! I obviously wasn't there to capture the actual proposal... but it made for a brilliant excuse for them to order in another box full of sweet colourful goodness for their engagement shoot! ;)
Bring on Saturday! You are so awesome together and we can't wait to witness you committing your lives to each other. All the best for the next couple of days... see you sooooon xx
I really don't know where to begin with Kenzie and Henry's wedding. Kenz is one of my best friends, and I just have SO much love for this couple! I have written so many blogs in my head about this day... it was just perfection from beginning to end. Kenz and Henry met in Dunedin, and came back from Aus to marry each other. They had the most fun, relaxed and BEAUTIFUL day possible! But it wasn't just that Kenzie looked incredibly stunning (that girl could wear a brown sack and still look amazing)... or that they had a pearler of a day with gorgeous views over the Dunedin peninsula. It wasn't just the beautifully simple ceremony with all their favourite people huddled underneath a gigantic tree in Chingford Park, or the pretty details they had planned. It was the complete and utter HAPPINESS that this day brought them, and every single one of the guests. They floated on a buzz of excitement and joy all day long.
Kenz and I have been friends since we were about four years old... so seeing her marrying the guy of her dreams was so amazing. I didn't know what kind of man Kenzie would need in her life... she is strong and independent and capable on her own. But Henry is exactly who she needed - he compliments her in every way possible. They can talk for hours on end about sport, or food, or wine, or travel, or movies... or debate rather intellectual matters that go way over my head. They support each other's independence, and pretty much, they make the perfect match.
I think you will all agree with me that Kenz is a total babe. She's also one of those really annoying girls who is funny, down-to-earth, super loving, thoughtful, loyal, and talented at EVERYTHING too....
I've tried for years to find Kenzie's faults, but I've come to the conclusion that I don't think she has any ;)
Even when they didn't know anyone was watching or photographing... they were off in their own wee world ;)
These girls are ridiculously awesome and all so stunning!
In fact, their whole bridal party = AMAZING.
Stop it with your incredible beauty already Kenzie...
Kenzie and Henry have a lot of friends... which is not surprising at all when you meet them. The reception was a hilarious, heartfelt, emotional evening full of amazing people, killer speeches/songs and a good dose of fun and games.
And an EPIC dance...
Just to finish off the day nicely, some beautiful moody fog rolled in over the hills, so we grabbed them out for a few final shots... turns out they are some of my favourites of the day...
Kenz and Henry... you guys know how much you mean to us, and how incredibly love-filled and humbled we felt on your wedding day. You show each other, and your friends and family, how important each relationship and friendship is to you, and that's a quality I really admire. Seeing the smiles never leaving your faces was amazing... it's obvious how much you adore and respect each other! I just remember giggling all day long :)
I know you are having the most epic adventures in South America right now... soooo jealous! Can't wait to hear more about it! xoxoxoxo
Little Archer came into the studio at 12 days new. He was a bundle of perfection... every little piece of him so teeny and so beautiful. He slept the entire time, without even a peep. His beautiful Mum, Annabelle, watched him dreaming so peacefully with the proudest smile on her face.
This little man, and his older brother, are her life... her greatest accomplishments.
Kristy and Warrack are tying the knot in Central Otago in just two weeks time... and I have an aweeeesome engagement shoot of theirs to share! I adored this shoot. I have known Kristy since we were little critters at the same primary school... and now we get to capture this gorgeous girl as she marries the man of her dreams (enter Warrack). I hadn't actually met Warrack until this shoot, but by the end of it I felt like we were best buddies. Being a Southland farmer, I maaaay have done a swooping over-generalization and put him into the 'I am too tough to enjoy photos' category. But he totally embraced his inner male-model and surprised me hugely by how much affection and hilarity he brought to the shoot... he loved it, and we all knew it.
These two are ridiculously awesome and down-to-earth. Knowing them and their friends, their wedding is going to be a mixture of stunning, stylish, elegant, fun, hilarious carnage (...that's perhaps the end of the night). It's going to be amazing and we.cannot.wait!!
Kristy, you are going to be a flippin' STUNNING bride!
We had basically one day that worked around us three busy people. And Kristy and Warrack came up from Gore just for the shoot... so the weather just had to play along. From gorgeous golden summery light, to a beach sunset... pretty sure we couldn't have asked for anything better!
You two totally nailed this shoot and I can't wait to do it all over again in two weeks!! Thanks for just trusting me to do my thing, and for coming all the way up :) All the best for your last few wedding planning days xoxo
I wound my way down gravel roads in the rain, and met Matt and Nat on their farm just out of Wyndham for their engagement shoot! Matt and Nat welcomed me into their home straight away and I just knew they were going to be super easy to photograph. They did both have slight reservations about doing engagement photos for a start, but they eased into it immediately, and their beautiful farm among the Southland rolling hills was an awesome location! The rain stopped, and we all piled on the motorbike... then Matt and Nat rocked it in front of the camera ;)
Thanks so much for a fun night Matt and Nat... can't wait for your gorgeous wedding in March!! On the count down now :D
I first met Lawren when I was about as tall as a grasshopper, and on our first playdate we managed to flood an old ladies whole bathroom as two cheeky 2 year olds. We were inseparable when were were kids - we lived at each others houses after school, and went on many family holidays together. We dressed the same for church and even happily shared our most precious barbie dolls with each other. I still remember very clearly the day my Mum knelt down beside me while I was playing with my dolls, and told me that one of my best friends was moving away. Thankfully Invercargill wasn't actually too far from Gore, and regular play dates were still possible. Lawren's parents, Andrew and Pauline were always like second parents to me, and even now when we all catch up (less occasionally unfortunately, as Auckland is quite far from Dunedin!) we share a bond that I will always treasure.
I had never been to Orewa before, but now that they are all living up that way, Liam and I got to venture up for an engagement shoot while we were in Auckland last year. And next month, we will be heading up again for Lawren and Brenton's awesome wedding!
I love catching up with old friends and meeting the loves of their lives. Sometimes you have imagined exactly who they might be with, other times it's a nice surprise. But they always seems to fit totally right. Lawren and Brenton just work together so well. They know each others crazy antics and annoying habits, and they love each other for it.
The entire day had been pretty miserable weather-wise... I thought the drenching rain and freezing temperatures might put an end to our beach shoot... but just as we arrived at the beach, the clouds cleared, and the sun came out in the most glorious way!
I can't wait to have these two in front of my camera as a bride and groom!
And the other love of their life is the beautiful big Tilly!
Thanks so much for having us Lawren, Brenton, Tilly, Andrew and Pauline! Can't wait to see you all again in February!! So excited! xoxo
Many of the details were either handmade, family heirlooms, or gifted from friends and family. I love homegrown weddings. These beautiful bridesmaids all made the day easy and stress-free for Anna too! Catching up with lots of old friends is one of the best things about weddings I think!
Anna is one of those girls who I can't remember NOT being in my life, and for that I am very thankful! We went all through kindy, primary, intermediate and high school together. We played at each others houses, we passed notes in class, we talked about boys, we went on plenty of camps together and we giggled a lot! And now she lives just 10 houses up the street from me, and we are both grown ups who are married and stuff! Anna is out-going, beautiful, hilarious, loyal and a friend who I will forever love catching up with!
It was so awesome to be able to capture Anna's wedding, to be beside her on the biggest day of her life, as she married her best friend, Chris.
The ceremony was at Chris' second home... the Zingari Rugby Club! Often when I catch up with Anna, Chris is either out playing rugby, away hunting, or working hard. His passions were included into their day which was awesome.
One of my favourite shots of the day... a stunning bride and her proud and unbelievably happy parents!
Husband and wifey! :D
Anna and Chris both have a pretty cheeky streak too...
If I wasn't photographing them, the boys were photographing themselves. All.day.long. ;)
A little bit of rain never hurt anyone!
Anna... you are a true stunner!
Anna and Chris.... you guys are awesome... thanks so much for asking us to photograph your big day! And thanks for your many, many years of friendship Anna! Sending loads of love up the street! Catch up soooon! xoxo
